The School Board meeting scheduled for Monday, March 2nd has been postponed due to a family emergency for one of our school board members.  The vote on the balanced calendar will take place at the next meeting on Monday, March 9, 2015.

On Monday, March 9, 2015, the Manassas Park School Board will be voting on a balanced calendar for the 2015-16 school year.  The board will be asked to approve a start date of August 17 with two five-day intersessions.  The recommendation does not ask for a ratification of either calendar proposal (Draft 1 or Draft 2) that are posted on the website.

Should the Board ratify the recommendation, there is still much work to be done.  A calendar committee will be formed, made up of two representatives from each school, transportation, and support staff.  The committee will work with Mr. Neff and the principals to organize calendar cafes in each building.  Feedback received from these meetings, the community cafes, and the staff survey will be used to create a Draft 3.  While it is impossible to include all recommendations and suggestions into one draft, the committee will work very hard to achieve consensus to create a proposal that is, by and large, palatable to the majority of participants.

From these efforts over the course of the next three weeks, a calendar will be created and proposed to the School Board for ratification on Monday, March 23.  The Draft 3 proposal will be posted on the school division website on Thursday, March 19.  It is our sincerest wish the calendar approved on the 23rd represents the very best thinking of the staff, students, and our community.
